A Crypto Future
A detailed year-by-year exploration of a crypto-driven world

The motivation behind this project is to write out a detailed future history of how crypto will evolve and impact our world over the coming years. As far as I know there are no similarly detailed and plausible explorations out there today. If there are, I’d love to read them.
Why do this?
Many of the narratives around crypto are often squishy, ambiguous or take a thirty-thousand foot view. This is fine and important but the forcing function of writing concrete examples with extreme detail is often neglected in crypto. Going through this process has led me to question some of my previously held views. It’s also strengthened my conviction in others.
The tldr of how this is written is effectively:
write the most plausible future I see for the duration of 2023-24
condition on that for 2025
repeat for 2026
There are some extremely speculative views in this, and the 2027 & 2028 years are only going to be weirder. But just because we don’t know what the future holds doesn’t mean we shouldn’t continue to think deeply (and detailed) about the most plausible path(s). It informs how we make decisions in the present.
I’m extremely excited to hear all of the feedback from this — please reach out with criticisms, questions, comments, memes, etc. We hope that in some ways this pushes the crypto ecosystem forward and sparks renewed creativity.

I have also thought about this a lot lately. I follow geopolitical and macroeconomic trends with much interest and if I were to say anything that encompasses this large rubric, it would be that it's that it is happening at a breath-taking pace.
“Right now there are changes – the likes of which we haven't seen for 100 years – and we are the ones driving these changes together,” Xi told Putin as he stood at the door of the Kremlin to bid him farewell. The Russian president responded: “I agree.” 22 Mar 2023
The show in front of the curtain is the tragedy of Ukraine, the much larger show that is hidden behind is the battle for financial supremacy between: the status quo financial behemoths, the banking elite you may call them, who wish to remain supreme; vs the emerging global south and their now open desire to be finally rid of the US dollar yoke; vs the nascent emergence of non state sponsored money based around the technological revolution which is Bitcoin.
More and more people are being confronted by the need to place their bets on what comes next and Bitcoin is gradually emerging as a real contender to be a base layer that nobody controls and everyone trusts.
To conclude my comment, I, as a fiction writer, am trying to capture through short stories the dilemmas and confrontations that will define this transition from a man in the street perspective.
